Enough money raised for one bike!

Instead of watching Saturday morning cartoons (my usual routine), I woke up a little earlier and walked to the post office.  I am sure glad I did!  I had received a letter from my mother with a check from a family friend back home.  Her donation has put us over the bar of $134.  That is all it takes to make one World Bicycle Relief bicycle.  Thanks to all the folks that have donated already.  If you are waiting for a moment to start donating, next month I will be riding up and down Cape Cod.  More news on that as April draws nearer.

Two more jerseys, from Alaska!

The nice and hearty folks at Free Spirit have sent me two of their colorfully designed jerseys for my ride.

They design jerseys for many of our great states.  I decided to go with their Oregon jersey since I will be starting there.  I figure it will be cool to be wearing an Oregon jersey in Virginia, so people will say, "Hey man, why are you wearing that Oregon jersey here?" and I can say, "Because I rode here from Astoria, OR to raise money for World Bicycle Relief.  Can I sleep in your backyard tonight?"  And they will say, "Sure, you can take a shower too if you want, and can you tell me more about WBR?"

This one is called "Mountain."  It will be good for riding through mountains.  There are a few bike riders depicted here, so if you are willing to ride a portion with me, I would love to have company.  It would also help the jersey to more accurately represent my ride.

My maps make planning my path possible!

I have been using my maps from Adventure Cycling Association to plan my route.  They donated all 12 of the TransAm maps to my ride.  Each map shows about 300 miles of the route and breaks it up into sections.  Each section is about 25 miles.  I will fold the map and display whichever section I am ridding on my handlebars.  They are waterproof too, so rain will not slow me down.  The maps also talk about general weather trends for the area, some history, phone numbers for services like hotels and campgrounds, and even an elevation profile.
I have put together a tentative schedule that you can view by clicking on the schedule tab in the top right corner.  Please let me know if you are going to be close to any of those locations when I am passing through.  And if you know anyone that could set me up with a group of people interested in watching a documentary about bike charities or a group of students eager to participate in bike safety activities, please let me know.
